Common questions.

Type to filter. Everything here reflects how the app actually behaves, not how we wish it behaved.

Getting started

Signing up, who Velora is for, and what you get without paying anything.

What is Velora?

Velora is an AI fitness, nutrition and coaching app. You scan a meal to get a nutrition estimate, generate or build workouts, track runs with GPS, track body progress, and optionally track your cycle — with a coach that answers in plain language.

Velora is not a medical device and does not give medical advice. Every calorie, macro, recovery, run and body number in the app is an estimate. See the medical and fitness disclaimer.

Do I have to pay to use it?

No. Weight tracking, waist ratio, manual workout building, cycle tracking, the run tracker, the quick workout generator and live workout are free with no cap and no tier gate.

Meal scanning and AI workout generation are also free every day, up to a daily count. The exact numbers per plan are on the plans and limits page.

How do I create an account?

You can sign up with an email address and password, with Sign in with Apple, or with Google Sign-In. All three land you in the same account type; pick whichever you will remember.

If you sign up with email we ask for your date of birth, because Velora is for adults only.

Is there an age requirement?

Yes. Velora is intended for people 18 and older. Accounts created with an email address are blocked below 18, and signing up through Apple or Google means agreeing in the Terms of Service that you are at least 18.

Which platforms is Velora on?

Velora is built for iOS first. If you want to know the moment it is live, add your email on the home page.

Meal scanning and food logging

How the scan works, how accurate it is, and what happens to your photo.

How does meal scanning work?

You photograph your meal. Velora compresses the photo, sends it to an AI model, and gets back an estimate of the food, the portion and the nutrition. You can add context or answer a follow-up question to sharpen the result before you save it.

The photo is deleted promptly once the result comes back. It is not kept in your history — only the numbers are.

How accurate are the calorie and macro numbers?

They are estimates, and Velora says so rather than dressing them up. A photo cannot show you the oil in the pan or the exact weight of the rice, so the app shows an estimate — a range where a range is honest — instead of a single confident number that would be wrong just as often.

You get much closer results by giving the scan context. See getting an accurate meal scan below.

Can I fix a scan that got it wrong?

Yes — edit the entry after it is saved. Corrections may also be kept in a de-identified form, with no user identifier attached, purely to improve accuracy over time. They are not linked back to you.

Can I log food without a photo?

Yes. You can log food manually, save foods to your own library, and scan a barcode. Manual and custom food logging never costs a scan and never requires an ad, on any plan, at any usage level.

What does a barcode scan send?

Only the barcode number. It goes to Open Food Facts, an independent product database, to look the product up. Your identity, your account and your health data are not part of that request.

Is my meal photo stored anywhere?

Not permanently. A meal-scan photo lives briefly in a private, access-controlled bucket so the AI can read it, and is deleted promptly after the result is returned, with a cleanup sweep as a backstop if delivery is ever interrupted.

Progress photos, workout photos and your profile photo are different — those are yours to keep, and they are encrypted on your device before upload. Full detail in the privacy policy.

Workouts, runs and cycle

Generating training, tracking a run, and what the optional health features touch.

Where do the generated workouts come from?

From your profile: your goal, your training experience, how many days you can train, the equipment you actually have, and the style you prefer. The more of that you fill in, the less generic the result.

You can also build workouts by hand, with no limit and no plan gate.

Does the run tracker use my location?

Yes, and only when you start a tracked run. Velora requests iOS “When In Use” location access — never “Always” — and keeps the session running while your run is active.

Your full run record, including the coordinates, splits, elevation, cadence and timestamps, is encrypted on your device before it is uploaded, using a key that lives only in your device’s Keychain. Velora’s servers store ciphertext they cannot read. Route data is never sold, never shared with advertisers, and never sent to an AI provider.

If I share a run, does that publish my route?

No. Sharing a run to the community publishes a stats card — distance, pace, duration, splits. Your coordinates, your route and your precise timestamps are not included, and the systems that store shared runs cannot hold location data at all.

Where is my cycle data stored?

On your device. Cycle tracking is free, optional, and by default the data you enter never leaves your phone. There is a cloud-sync setting that is off by default and, as of today, is not wired to any server-side storage. If that ever ships it stays off by default, needs your separate opt-in, and the policies get updated first.

You can wipe it with the in-app “delete all cycle data” control at any time.

What does the Apple Health connection do?

It is optional. If you turn it on, Velora reads a limited set of metrics — sleep, heart-rate variability, resting heart rate, respiratory rate, steps, energy burned, VO2 max and workouts — to calculate your wellness scores on your device.

Velora never writes to Apple Health. That data and the scores built from it stay on your phone: not uploaded, not shared with any third party or AI provider, never used for advertising, never sold.

Limits, ads and plans

What runs out, when it resets, and what the app does when you reach a cap.

What happens when I hit a daily limit?

Nothing locks. When you reach your daily meal scans or AI workout generations, you can watch a short ad and keep going, or upgrade to a plan with a higher limit. It is your choice every time.

When do daily limits reset?

Once a day. The daily window is counted from midnight UTC, so counts refresh at the same moment everywhere.

What kind of ads does Velora show?

Rewarded video only — the kind you choose to watch in exchange for something. No banners and no interstitials. Ads exist only on the free tier; paid subscribers never see one, and the advertising software is not even started for them.

The ad partner receives your device advertising identifier, and only if you allow tracking at Apple’s prompt. Your name, email, health, fitness, meal, photo, run, cycle and coaching data are never shared with an advertiser.

If I switch plans mid-day, do my counts reset?

No. Usage counts belong to your account, not your plan. Two scans used today still count against today’s limit on the new plan. Tomorrow starts clean.

What are the exact limits per plan?

They are published in full, with real numbers, on the plans and limits page — scans per day, workout generations per day, how long history is kept, photo storage, and what happens at a cap.

Billing and subscriptions

Renewals, cancelling, refunds, and restoring a purchase.

How do I cancel my subscription?

In your App Store settings, not inside Velora — Apple owns the subscription. On your iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Velora → Cancel Subscription.

Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends, or the next renewal has already been charged. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep your plan until the end of the period you already paid for.

Do subscriptions renew automatically?

Yes. Paid plans are auto-renewing and renew at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. The full terms are in the subscription and auto-renewal terms.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by Velora — we cannot issue them. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com with the Apple Account you purchased on.

If the reason is something broken on our side, email us anyway. We would rather fix it than have you fight a refund form.

I paid but the app still shows me as free.

Use Restore Purchases in the app, signed in with the same Apple Account you bought on. Entitlements are tied to that Apple Account, so a different one will not see the purchase.

If it still does not appear, email support@joinvelora.app with the account email and roughly when you purchased.

What happens if I downgrade and I am over the new limit?

You are not cut off without warning. You get a 7-day warning, and if you are still over the cap when it ends, the oldest items are removed first until you are back inside it. Nothing newer is touched before something older.

What does Velora know about my payment?

Your tier and whether it is active — nothing else. Payment is handled by Apple and our subscription manager under their own policies. What reaches us is an internal account identifier and your entitlement status, never your name, your email or your card.

Account, data and privacy

Deleting things, getting a copy, and what encryption actually means here.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Profile → Delete Account.

This is an immediate hard delete, not a 30-day grace period. Your account, profile, health and fitness data, run data, chat history and stored photos are removed across the database and storage. A few things survive by design: de-identified analytics and abuse-prevention records with your identifier removed, anonymous scan corrections that never had one, and an append-only administrative audit log. All three are described in the privacy policy.

Can I get a copy of my data, or correct it?

Yes. Deletion you can do yourself in the app. For access, correction, a portable copy or a formal withdrawal of consent, email support@joinvelora.app — these are handled manually today; there is no automated export tool yet, and we would rather say that than imply otherwise.

We verify your identity first and respond within 45 days, or sooner where your state or country requires it. If we deny a request you can appeal by replying with “Appeal” in the subject line.

Does Velora sell my data?

No. Velora does not sell personal information, and does not use health, fitness, nutrition, cycle or run-route data for advertising. The only advertising is the optional rewarded video described above, on the free tier only.

What does “encrypted on your device” mean?

Your progress and profile photos, coach chats, nutrition history and GPS run data are encrypted on your phone (AES-GCM-256) before they are uploaded. Our servers hold ciphertext, not readable content.

The key lives only in your device Keychain and syncs through iCloud Keychain. We never hold it. That is the point — and the trade-off: if you lose that key, with iCloud Keychain off and the device gone, that cloud data cannot be recovered by us either.

Is my data used to train AI models?

We use AI providers to generate your result, not to build models, and we contractually restrict them from training on your data. Providers may briefly retain data under their own standard terms to run their service and catch abuse. The full picture, including one representation we cannot independently verify, is in the AI processing disclosure — written to be honest rather than flattering.

How do I turn off notifications?

Velora sends local reminders for meals, scan completion, workouts and optional cycle reminders. Manage them in iOS Settings under Velora, and where available inside the app.

Troubleshooting

The handful of things that actually go wrong, and what to try first.

A meal scan is stuck or failed.

A scan needs a connection to reach the model. Check signal, then retry the scan. A failed scan should not consume a daily count — if you believe one did, email us with the approximate time and we will look.

If it keeps failing on one specific photo, try again in better light or from directly above; a very dark or extremely angled shot is the usual cause.

My run did not record, or the route looks wrong.

Confirm location permission is granted for Velora in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Velora, set to While Using the App. GPS also drifts indoors, in dense city blocks and under heavy tree cover — that is the phone’s receiver, not the app discarding your run.

Apple Health metrics are not showing up.

Open the iOS Health app, then Sharing → Apps → Velora, and confirm each metric is toggled on. iOS grants Health permissions individually, so a single one left off is enough to leave a score blank.

I cannot sign in.

Use the same method you signed up with — an account created with Sign in with Apple will not have an email password to enter. If you used email, use the password reset on the sign-in screen.

Still stuck? Email support@joinvelora.app from the address on the account, and say which sign-in method you used.

Something else is broken.

Email us with your device model, your iOS version, the app version, and what you did right before it went wrong. That fourth one is the one that actually gets it fixed.

No question matches that. Try a shorter word, or email support@joinvelora.app and ask us directly.

Longer answers.

Four things worth more than a paragraph: getting the scan right, getting training you will actually do, handling your subscription, and leaving cleanly.

Guide

How to get a meal scan that is actually close

A photo carries less information than people expect. It shows shape and colour; it does not show the two tablespoons of oil, the density of the rice, or whether the chicken is 4 oz or 7. Velora fills those gaps with a model that is right much more often when you give it something to work with, and vague when you do not.

What makes the difference

  1. Shoot from above, in real light. A top-down frame shows the whole plate and the relative area of each item. Harsh angles hide half the portion behind the front of it.
  2. Get something for scale in frame. The plate rim, a fork, a standard glass. Scale is the single biggest source of portion error.
  3. Say what the photo cannot show. Add context: cooked in butter, dressing on the side, this is half a portion. One short note moves the estimate more than a better photograph does.
  4. Answer the follow-up. When the app asks a clarifying question, it is asking about the thing it is least sure of. Skipping it keeps the uncertainty in your numbers.
  5. Correct it once and save it. For a meal you eat regularly, fix the entry once and save it to your food library. After that it is a one-tap log with no scan spent and no ad.

Expect a range rather than one exact number on things a photograph genuinely cannot pin down. That is the app being honest about what it knows. Ranges narrow as you add context.

Guide

Getting workouts you will actually do

Generated training fails for a boring reason: the profile it was generated from describes an imaginary person with a full gym and five free evenings. The generator reads what you tell it, so what you tell it decides whether the plan survives contact with a Tuesday.

Before you generate

  1. Set training days to the number you will really train, not the number you would like to. Three real days beat five aspirational ones.
  2. List the equipment you can reach today. Dumbbells at home is a complete answer. An honest short list produces a plan you can run; a hopeful long one produces a plan you skip.
  3. Pick the style you like. Adherence is the variable that matters most, and you adhere to training you do not dread.
  4. Keep your goal and body metrics current. They feed volume and intensity as well as your calorie targets.

Then adjust it

Nothing generated is fixed. Edit any workout, or build one by hand — manual workout building is free, uncapped and never behind a plan. The quick workout generator and live workout are free too, so a session you did not plan for is never a paywall.

Every recommendation is general fitness information, not medical advice. If you have an injury or a condition, talk to a professional first — see the medical and fitness disclaimer.

Guide

Managing your subscription without surprises

Velora subscriptions are Apple subscriptions. That single fact explains almost every billing question: the charge, the renewal, the cancellation and the refund all happen on Apple’s side, and Velora sees only whether your plan is active.

The three things worth knowing

  1. Cancel in Settings, not in Velora. Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Velora. There is no cancel button inside the app because there cannot be one.
  2. The 24-hour rule is real. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Later than that and the next period has already been billed by Apple, and you keep the plan for it.
  3. Cancelling does not delete anything. You keep the plan until the paid period ends, then drop to free. If that puts you over a free-tier cap, you get a 7-day warning first and the oldest items go first.

Refunds

Apple issues them, at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot process a refund, but if something on our end caused it, email us — a fix plus a note from us is usually a better outcome than a form.

Exact per-plan numbers live on plans and limits. The legal detail is in the subscription terms.

Guide

Leaving, and taking your data with you

An app that makes leaving hard is telling you something. Velora deletes on request, immediately, from the app itself.

Deleting the account

  1. Open Profile → Delete Account. No email required, no retention offer to sit through.
  2. It is immediate. Account, profile, health and fitness data, runs, chat history and stored photos are hard-deleted across the database and storage — not queued for 30 days.
  3. Cancel your subscription separately. Apple owns the subscription, so deleting your Velora account does not stop a renewal. Cancel in Settings first.

What is left afterwards, honestly

Three things survive, and all three are stated in the privacy policy rather than buried: de-identified analytics and abuse-prevention records with your identifier stripped, anonymous scan corrections that never carried an identifier, and an append-only administrative audit log that records administrative actions and cannot be altered even by us.

Turning off individual features instead

You do not have to delete everything to stop sharing something. Revoke Apple Health access in the Health app, revoke location permission in iOS Settings, or wipe cycle data with the in-app “delete all cycle data” control. Each one is independent.

For a copy of your data or a correction, email support@joinvelora.app. Those are handled by hand today.

Still stuck? Write to us.
